Bomb explosion near Narathiwat railway station injures two soldiers

BANGKOK, Oct 27 — A bomb explosion occurred on a railway track near Maruebo Station in Narathiwat province, southern Thailand, this morning, injuring two military officers and disrupting two local train services.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said it had received a report from the stationmaster at Maruebo Station that the explosion occurred at 6.33am near the southern railway switch at the station.

"Preliminary reports indicate that two military officers stationed in the area were injured. Security agencies have since secured the area and are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident," it said in a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

For the safety of passengers and staff, the SRT has temporarily adjusted its train operations in Narathiwat province. Train No. 448 from Sungai Kolok to Surat Thani was terminated at Tanyong Mat in Rangae district, while Train No. 453 from Yala to Sungai Kolok was halted at the Rueso Station.

"For other train services in the lower southern region, the SRT is assessing the situation in coordination with security agencies and will announce further operational updates as soon as possible," it said.

The SRT added that this act of violence had caused damage to state property and could disrupt public services.

"SRT will work closely with the military and relevant agencies to urgently inspect and repair the damaged tracks so that normal train operations can resume as quickly as possible," it said.

The SRT also urged all railway personnel to exercise the utmost caution and to avoid entering high-risk areas unless necessary.
