KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen affected by the floods are urged to immediately report any property damage or loss of income to the nearest agricultural office or related agency.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said his ministry will review the reports and provide appropriate assistance to help ease the burden on those affected.
“I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all flood victims in several states. To all those affected, be patient and stay strong.
“This trial surely has a lesson. The government, through the relevant agencies, is on the ground providing aid and ensuring the people’s safety and welfare,” he posted on Facebook today.
Mohamad also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all rescue teams, government agency members, volunteers and people who are helping flood victims, and prayed for the weather to improve soon and for all victims to be given strength to face the ordeal.
As at 8am today, the flood situation in Perak had worsened with 2,171 people from 759 families evacuated to 22 temporary relief centres, while in Kedah, 206 people were moved to three relief centres in Kulim last night.
This morning in Penang, one relief centre was opened at SK Tan Sri Awang Had Salleh in Kampung Perlis due to heavy rain since yesterday afternoon, which caused trees to fall in several areas and landslides along Jalan Tun Sardon.
