KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Several local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are planning to dispatch eight containers of sterilised ready-to-eat food aid to Gaza later this month.

The emergency relief mission under the #MisiRakyatUntukGaza: Nasi Arab Untuk Gaza initiative aims to deliver nutritious, shelf-stable meals to over 30,000 residents of Gaza affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The mission brings together various NGOs, including Muslim Care Malaysia, Ikhlas Care, Cinta Gaza Malaysia, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim), Azhar Care, and Our Care, with food production being carried out in stages since mid-month.

Nasi Arab Untuk Gaza project director Ali Ikhwan Nordin said that each container is expected to carry 1,000 meal packs, totalling 16,800 packs for the first phase of shipment.

“In a situation where access to food is severely limited, each pack of Nasi Arab represents more than just a meal. It stands as a symbol of compassion and solidarity from Malaysians to our brothers and sisters in Gaza.

“The sterilisation technology ensures the food remains fresh, safe to eat and long-lasting without refrigeration, which is an essential factor in times of crisis and conflict,” he said during the campaign launch today.

Ali added that the chicken or beef Nasi Arab was chosen because it is well accepted by Middle Eastern communities and provides a good source of protein.

In the event of delays or blockades preventing delivery to Gaza, the aid will be redirected to refugee camps in Lebanon, Yemen, or Syria.

He also called on Malaysians to continue supporting the campaign, contributing as little as RM10 a week to help ensure the continued delivery of aid to the war-torn region.

“The key is to never stop helping. No matter how small the contribution, it can mean so much to those who are going hungry,” Ali said.
