SHAH ALAM, April 3 — Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari has been entrusted to represent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in leading Malaysia’s Emergency Aid Mission to Gaza, including participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0.

The Menteri Besar’s Office said the mission will deliver 30 containers carrying 374 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, who are facing worsening conditions.

The delegation is set to depart on Sunday (April 5).

“Given the challenging and high-risk nature of the mission, all Malaysians are urged to pray for its success and the safety of the Selangor Menteri Besar and all personnel involved.

“Selangor and Malaysia will continue to uphold justice for the Palestinian people who remain besieged and oppressed by the Israeli Zionist regime,” it said in a statement today.

The mission, organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations, will see Amirudin lead the humanitarian aid operation and ensure the safe release of aid containers in Cairo, Egypt.

He is also scheduled to lead a special session at the Rafah border crossing to reaffirm Malaysia’s firm stance on the Gaza blockade, before monitoring the departure of the Sumud Nusantara delegation from the Port of Barcelona, Spain.

Earlier, it was reported that a flotilla of pro-Palestinian activists is set to launch a new mission to Gaza from Barcelona on April 12, following a previous high-profile attempt last year that drew global attention.

The first Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail on August 31, 2025, undertook a weeks-long journey across the Mediterranean Sea to reach the enclave, which remains under blockade amid the ongoing conflict.

The mission ended after Israeli forces intercepted the vessels and detained activists as they approached Gaza, triggering international criticism.

The group said its upcoming humanitarian effort is expected to involve more than 80 boats and around 1,000 participants from across the world.
