KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — The Asean Halal Food Festival is not merely a showcase of the region’s diverse culinary delights, but also serves as a platform for social education — especially for the younger generation — to better understand Asean's cultural diversity and heritage.
Its project manager Ryan Lim said that besides enjoying a wide variety of signature dishes from 30 food stalls representing Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam, visitors — particularly children — were also exposed to interactive activities and culture-based learning experiences.

“It’s not just about food; we are also featuring the cultures of each country. For instance, today we are presenting the Tarian Piring dance from Selangor as part of the programme.
“We’re also organising special activities for children like cooking sessions to give them hands-on exposure,” he told Media Selangor.
Held at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa as part of the Kuala Lumpur Park Festival, the 10-day fiesta, which began on Friday (October 17), coincides with the Asean Summit. The event aims to strengthen regional unity through informal education centred on culinary arts and cultural heritage.

Other attractions include Mystical Titiwangsa and the KL Genta: Drum and Dance Festival, which helps educate the public about the richness of the region’s traditional arts.
Previously, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that this year’s event not only promotes a healthy lifestyle and urban sustainability but also serves as a platform to strengthen regional community ties through art, culture, and green innovation.
