SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — The state government is prepared to provide further assistance to cover the repair costs of homes severely damaged by the storm in Sijangkang, Kuala Langat, yesterday.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said details of the assistance will be announced tomorrow.
Previously, each affected household received RM500 under the State Disaster Fund, but losses from this incident are expected to be much greater.
“For the victims, we already have provisions under the disaster fund of RM500 per household, but I believe the value this time should be higher. We will review what other forms of support we can provide.
“This time, the impact is severe. From our past experience, we have assisted with roof replacements and similar repairs. Those kinds of aid were also provided in previous years,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the press attending the Selangor Sagong Tasi Excellence Awards 2025 ceremony at the State Secretariat Building today.
He added that the Sijangkang storm was among the worst to have struck Selangor since he began serving as Menteri Besar in 2018.
“Be cautious and avoid outdoor activities, especially during rainfall. Ensure children are in safe places, and contact the authorities in case of emergencies. We are ready to help,” he said.
Earlier, Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI channelled RM400,000 in initial aid to repair schools and residents’ homes affected by the severe storm in Sijangkang and in Meru, Klang.
The allocation was distributed to six affected schools, while RM100,000 was channelled to the Sijangkang state constituency service centre and RM50,000 to the Meru state constituency for house repair works.
Yesterday, several areas in Meru and Sijangkang were hit by a powerful storm followed by a tornado, causing extensive damage to homes, schools and vehicles.
Among the schools affected were SMK Sijangkang Jaya, SK Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, SK Jalan Tanjung, and SRA Kampung Medan.
