SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 — The state's halal industry ecosystem has secured another win through its partnership with the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to speed up the issuance of halal certificates.
State executive councillor for the halal industry Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the Selangor government is not only helping businesses in the documentation and registration aspects of obtaining certification, but also in other aspects of the process.
"Selangor is the only state that can give first-time applicants the assurance that they will have confirmation of approval or rejection within 30 days of making an application.
"As for certification renewals, the whole process has been reduced to just seven days, and may even take as little as 48 hours," he told Media Selangor.
Mohammad Fahmi also added that his depsrtment has come up with ways to help entrepreneurs break into the global market.
“These businesses need to be more innovative and produce a bigger variety of products to be sold to the wider market.
"We have also formed ties with a few halal certification bodies overseas to seek more information on what products they might want from us."
The executive councillor reminded all entrepreneurs to ensure that their goods are of excellent quality before being exported.
"If they ensure this step is done, there is no reason why they cannot compete on equal terms in the larger market out there," he added.
