KOTA BHARU, Oct 10 — The 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) seized electronic cigarettes (vapes) worth RM1.49 million during a surveillance operation at Kampung Parit Air in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan yesterday.
Acting GOF Southeast Brigade commander ACP Ijid Landu Binju said that in the 6.30pm incident, a GOF team detained a lorry suspected of carrying prohibited goods during Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan in the area.
An inspection of the lorry found several boxes wrapped in yellow plastic containing 9,940 units of electronic cigarette devices of various flavours in the back of the vehicle.
"All the devices are suspected of not complying with the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Devices) Order because they do not have the certificate and MS Sirim stamp as prescribed (mandatory) before being allowed to be sold in the market.
"The lorry driver, a 25-year-old male, was detained for investigation and was believed to be transporting the devices to the local market," he said in a statement today.
The seized items were handed over to the Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for further action, with the case being investigated under Section 4(2)(a) of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Devices) Order Act 2022.
