PUTRAJAYA, Oct 10 — The Education Ministry (MOE) has given assurance that preventive and control measures to curb the spread of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) are being carried out continuously and comprehensively across all educational institutions under its purview.
He said the measures implemented include the issuance of a circular detailing guidelines on preventing the spread of ILI, providing administrators of all institutions with a clear framework to manage the situation in an organised and effective manner.
He said the reminder of the circular was distributed to all educational institutions through state education departments and district education offices on October 6.
“The MOE and the Health Ministry (MOH), through its Disease Control Division, are closely monitoring the spread of ILI to ensure the health and well-being of students, teachers, and the entire education community,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Azam said the measures include advising individuals showing symptoms to seek immediate medical attention, and ensuring that symptomatic students in hostels are isolated in the sick bay while awaiting their parents or guardians to take them home.
He said that students showing symptoms are advised to rest at home or in their hostels and avoid crowded areas. Additionally, he encouraged members of the school community to wear face masks when interacting with others or in public places.
Mohd Azam said other measures include promoting awareness on the importance of personal hygiene and health among the education community, as well as educating parents and guardians on their role in preventing the spread of ILI in schools and remaining vigilant about their children’s health.
The MOH yesterday reported 97 clusters of influenza A and B infections during Epidemiological Week 40/2025, up from 14 clusters the previous week, with the majority linked to educational institutions.
