KLANG, Oct 6 — The 15th edition of Sukan Selangor (Sukses) has helped to develop the growth of the state’s athletes and also bring new vigour to the sports scene in the state.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that aside from being a healthy platform for sporting competitiveness among the different districts, the biennial meet is also the best place for athletes to test their abilities.
"For this edition, we kept to the same format as Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) so that our athletes can get an idea of how it will be like next year.
“Our young talents must be nurtured, shaped and guided by our best coaches to reach the highest goals,” said Amirudin in a speech read out by executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
Amirudin also said that Sukses will continue to be a main driver of the state’s ambition in achieving sporting excellence as it is an event grounded by consistency and a strong foundation.
Majlis Sukan Daerah (MSD) Petaling became the overall champion of the event after it clinched 42 gold medals, 28 silvers and 21 bronzes.
Event host MSD Klang came in second, with its team receiving 21 gold, 26 silver and 26 bronze medals.
MSD Sepang rounded up the podium winners by achieving 14 gold medals, 16 silvers and 16 bronzes.
Sukses 2025 also feted individual excellence, awarding MSD Kuala Selangor athlete Muhamad Daniel Haqiem Azman and MSD Petaling athlete Sasha Alyssa Philip as the best sportsperson for the male and female categories.
Eleven types of sporting events were held — lawn bowling, taekwondo, sepak takraw, netball, rugby, pencak silat, track and field, basketball, volleyball, archery and ping pong — and 401 winners went home with medals throughout the competition.
