SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — Selangor will host a gala dinner and cultural tour in conjunction with the 34th Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting, which will take place on October 8 and 9.
According to the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), the dinner will be held on October 8 at Sunway Resort Hotel, which will be hosted by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and attended by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Asean+3 senior officials.
“Their presence reflects the spirit of solidarity and regional camaraderie in strengthening socio-cultural cooperation for shared progress,” UPEN said in a statement today.
UPEN said a main highlight of the programme will be a cultural and community tour of heritage and cultural destinations in Selangor, including the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery in Klang and Mah Meri Cultural Village in Kuala Langat.
It said the tour aims to showcase the richness of Selangor’s heritage and multi-ethnic communities, while giving delegates the opportunity to experience firsthand the beauty of village life, unique architecture, and the warmth of local hospitality.
“This programme is seen as an important platform to showcase the potential of Selangor’s community-based and cultural tourism at the regional level.
“This tour will not only elevate Selangor’s tourism profile, but provide spillover economic benefits to local residents, including homestay operators, small traders, artisans, and local tourism operators,” it said.
UPEN added that the programme is expected to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster broader collaborations in investment, tourism, and socio-economic development.
The gala dinner and cultural tour was organised in collaboration with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) and supported by the Asean-Malaysia National Secretariat under the Foreign Ministry.
