SHAH ALAM, Oct 2 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has called for the immediate and safe release of Malaysian volunteers detained by Israeli forces while taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF).

In a statement, he said the state government fully supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to secure the release of those captured.

He added that the cowardly, criminal actions of the Zionist regime must be condemned, as they are clearly in violation of international law and human rights.

“Their actions this morning have crossed the line as the GSF is a noble mission to deliver food and medical aid to the people of Gaza, who continue to endure relentless attacks and are recognised globally as victims of genocide.

“This is the time for all nations to unite, to reject any attempt to compromise with these ongoing crimes, and to push for comprehensive international sanctions against that terrorist state,” he said.

Earlier today, it was reported that 12 Malaysian volunteers who are part of the GSF — a mission involving the collaboration of 44 countries and some 500 activists globally — were detained by the Israeli forces.

In another statement, the Foreign Ministry similarly demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all activists, humanitarian workers, and crew members of the GSF, as well as vessels carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Wisma Putra said aid delivery must be allowed to proceed safely and without obstruction.

“This unprovoked act violates maritime law, humanitarian law, and international human rights,” it said in a statement, describing Israel’s actions as criminal, cowardly, and a blatant breach of international law.

Malaysia reiterated that the GSF is a legitimate humanitarian initiative, mobilised to deliver urgent aid to the people of Palestine.

Wisma Putra also urged the United Nations Security Council and the international community to take concrete action to stop Israel’s atrocities and ensure the regime is held accountable for its actions.

“The world cannot remain silent in the face of Israel’s blatant disregard for universal norms and principles,” it added.
