SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — The state government will host a grand state-level Deepavali celebration on October 17 at Dataran Klang@Padang Chetty, Klang, expecting to draw some 10,000 attendees from diverse communities across Selangor.

The event, organised by state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman in collaboration with various government agencies, aims to strengthen multi-racial ties and celebrate the state's cultural diversity.

"This clearly demonstrates the state government's commitment to celebrating our cultural diversity and strengthening harmony among our multiracial population.

“This is crucial as Selangor is home to diverse races and religions, making mutual understanding essential," he said in a statement today.

Papparaidu added that the celebration goes beyond mere festivities, serving as an important platform to foster unity and invigorate the spirit of togetherness among communities.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari will officiate the ceremony, which will be attended by other state government leaders.

The celebration will feature the traditional lighting of the kuthu vilakku oil lamp and cultural performances highlighting Deepavali's unique traditions.

The programme will also include the presentation of mock cheques for temple assistance, distribution of support for Indian entrepreneurs, and refreshments for all attendees.
