GUANGZHOU, Sept 30 — The state government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with strategic partners in China as part of its continued commitment to empowering women's participation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The signing between the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC), APR Electronic Services Sdn Bhd, and Guangdong Cross-Border Product Trade Association (GCCTA) at the Guangdong Women’s Polytechnic College in Shunde, Guangdong, yesterday was witnessed by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“This collaboration marks a significant milestone in efforts to position Selangor as a competitive regional learning hub in digital technology and e-commerce,” he said.

Amirudin added that STDC will continue to serve as a catalyst for developing high-skilled human capital, particularly in strategic sectors, by implementing TVET programmes.

The collaboration with GCCTA opens doors to leading industry players, including Midea Colmo, China Unicom, and YTO Express, providing trainees with practical exposure and high-value career opportunities in the digital sector.

"The state government's main focus in this mission is to significantly increase women's participation in TVET by launching the Women in TVET initiative with the Guangdong Women’s Polytechnic College,” he said.

Women in TVET is expected to serve as a vital platform to enhance the skills of and open up opportunities to more women to participate in the technical, digital, and e-commerce fields.

The collaboration is also expected to strengthen women’s competitiveness in vocational fields traditionally dominated by men, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable economic development.

Amirudin is confident that collaboration between the state government, education institutions, and the industry will help push Selangor as a regional digital talent hub that is inclusive, competitive and prosperous.

Yesterday's MOU signing marked the final activity of the Selangor delegation's nine-day official working visit to China, led by the Menteri Besar.
