Lorry driver remanded two days over fatal Bukit Kajang crash

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — A lorry driver involved in a deadly four-vehicle crash at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza yesterday has been remanded for two days starting today to assist in police investigations.

Kajang district police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said statements have been recorded from five people, including the owner of the lorry company.

“Investigations found that the lorry was last serviced in April. The driver also claimed that he jumped out of the vehicle due to brake problems.

“However, investigations are ongoing to determine whether the vehicle really had brake problems. The lorry will be sent for inspection,” he said in a statement today.

Media reports yesterday said the accident, which occurred at about 10.50am, involved a lorry, a car, and two SUVs, resulting in the death of a one-year-old boy and injuries to seven others.

Naazron said the baby was in the car with his mother, grandmother, and twin.

“The baby’s family members have been discharged from Serdang Hospital after treatment, while the other victims in the two SUVs are still being treated at Kajang Hospital and a private hospital in Kajang,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
