BEIJING, Sept 26 — An official delegation from the state government visited Tsinghua University in Beijing today to explore opportunities for academic collaboration in nuclear energy and engineering, including placements for students from the state in internationally recognised programmes.

Led by the State Economic Planning Unit's (UPEN) director cum the Deputy State Secretary (Development) Dato' Johary Anuar, it also included representatives from state agencies like Worldwide, Yayasan MBI, the Selangor Technology and Innovation Strategic Development Centre (STDC), as well as the Menteri Besar's special officers.

In a briefing by the university's Engineering Physics Faculty's Deputy Dean Li Liang, Tsinghua introduced the International Master’s Programme in Nuclear Engineering and Management (TUNEM) 2025, a two-year professional master’s course conducted entirely in English.

The programme is offered with a full scholarship covering tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses, and insurance, in addition to providing six to 12 months of industrial training with leading nuclear energy companies in China.

Also present to share his experience was an international student from Selangor, Akmal Syahmi Haslan, 25, who is currently pursuing a Master’s in Nuclear Engineering and Management (Energy).

Johary said the visit paved the way for bilateral cooperation between Selangor and Tsinghua University, particularly in research and development (R&D), industrial training, and developing young talent in the energy sector.

“The state government fully supports the effort to send outstanding students to world-class programmes like TUNEM. This aligns with Selangor's agenda to nurture highly skilled talent in new technologies and green energy,” he said.

Johary added that follow-up discussions will be held with educational and energy agencies in Selangor to evaluate student participation in the programme.

The state government is also considering providing additional incentives for Selangor students who successfully secure a place in the programme, as encouragement for more young people to venture into high-impact strategic fields.

The delegation’s visit also featured exchanges of views, discussions with the university’s management, and tours of several research laboratories, including those for Radiation Imaging, Virtual Simulation, Radiation Detection, and the TianGe Project.

This initiative is expected to further strengthen Selangor’s position as a centre for technological development and higher education in the region, while supporting the state’s aspiration to produce a globally competitive young generation.
