Thunderstorms expected as monsoon transition begins Sept 30 — MetMalaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — The monsoon transition phase is expected to start on September 30 and last until November, ending the Southwest Monsoon that began on May 10 this year.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement today said that during this transition phase, the country will experience weak winds from various directions.

“This condition may lead to the formation of thunderstorm clouds, which are typically accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds over a short period, especially in the afternoon and early evening,” read the statement.

The areas most likely to be affected include the west and interior regions of Peninsular Malaysia, as well as west of Sabah and Sarawak.

“This weather phenomenon may cause flash floods, fallen trees, water surges, and damage to weak structures,” the statement added.

As a precaution, the public is advised to remain alert, take necessary safety measures, and stay informed by following the latest weather updates and warnings through MetMalaysia’s official channels, including its website, the myCuaca mobile app, and social media.
