SHAH ALAM, Sept 25 — The one-off RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) distributed on August 31 has enabled recipients to buy essential goods at affordable prices while easing the cost-of-living burden, particularly for lower-income families.
Selangor residents said that despite congestion and occasional digital system glitches, the initiative has been helpful in their daily lives.
On the first day of implementation alone, about 850,000 recipients spent over RM50 million at more than 7,300 registered premises nationwide.
Some recipients, like shopkeeper Wani Arumugam, proposed that the initiative be continued in the future with a higher allocation to better cover the rising cost of essential goods.
“RM100 is helpful, but only enough to purchase a few items. I hope the government will increase the amount in the future,” she told Media Selangor.

Cashier Lina Lunda, who used the aid to buy groceries for her family, said it helped ease her daily expenses, though she suggested the assistance be given in cash.
"There were some system disruptions. If it were in cash, maybe I could use it to pay bills as well,” she said.
For Rajasupari Suppaiyah, he waited a week before shopping as he was worried about digital glitches.
“Basic goods really help. But prices vary depending on the shop, so you need to manage your budget wisely,” he said.
Student Muhammad Afiq Irfan R. Azimi said the aid was very beneficial, especially for people like him.
Retail worker Nurul Ain Alya Natasha praised the use of MyKad for purchases, calling it easy and secure.
“Most customers bought rice, cooking oil and other essentials. It really helps them save, and using MyKad for purchases is easier and safer,” she said.
