KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — PLUS Malaysia Berhad has allocated about RM37 million for the improvement of public toilets at 56 locations along its highways since 2023.
It said the improvements, which are either completed or underway, cover Rest and Service Areas (R&R), laybys, overhead bridge restaurants, and toll plazas.
“A total of 32 public toilets were upgraded in 2023, followed by 16 more last year. Another eight locations are expected to be upgraded this year,” PLUS said in a statement today.
Its managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar said these upgrades are part of the company’s efforts to enhance facilities and improve service efficiency for highway users.
“These improvements are part of the Five-Year Master Plan for the Development and Upgrading of Facilities along PLUS-operated highways. As part of this plan, five R&Rs and 11 laybys will be upgraded progressively until 2028,” she said.
The upgrades include additional sitting toilets, special cubicles for disabled persons, family and child-friendly cubicles, baby-changing rooms, and shower facilities.
“PLUS will continue to upgrade selected R&R and layby locations in phases, including the Pedas Linggi Layby (northbound), the Bukit Gantang Layby (southbound), the Tangkak Layby (northbound), and the R&R Machap (southbound),” Nik Airina said.
