SUBANG JAYA, Sept 15 — The outlook for investment at the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2025 is clouded by the impact of new tariffs announced by the United States (US).

State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the recently imposed tariffs have prompted companies to adopt a wait-and-see approach to ensure that any investment made remains of high quality.

“SIBS is one of the most anticipated programmes as it attracts quality investors to Selangor. However, the transaction value cannot be determined due to the tariffs imposed on certain goods.

“Companies are waiting to see how things develop after the tariffs were introduced, but this approach will not last too long as businesses still need to move forward… we will monitor the situation from time to time,” he said after launching the Kinrara Youth Festival 2025 at Taman Rekreasi Wawasan, here last night.

SIBS 2025 will be held from October 8 to 11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, with the aim of strengthening Selangor’s position as Malaysia’s economic hub and gateway to Asean.

The annual event is expected to draw 50,000 visitors this year and will feature two new segments, namely the Selangor International Care Economy Summit and the Selangor Aerospace Summit (SAS), formerly known as the Selangor Aviation Show.

The summit will continue to feature key events such as the Selangor International Food and Beverage Expo, the Selangor Industrial Park and Investment Expo (SPARK), the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC), and the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC).

Last year, SIBS 2024 — held for the first time in two editions (July and October) — recorded transactions worth RM13.86 billion, more than double the RM6.12 billion achieved in 2023.
