Sukan Selangor 2025 kicks off Sept 17

SHAH ALAM, Sept 12 — The 15th Sukan Selangor (Sukses) will be held from September 17 to October 5, with 411 medals up for grabs in 211 events.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has been chosen to host the biennial event, which is set to draw over 2,300 athletes.

Najwan said Sukses is an important platform for sports development that enables the state administration to identify new talent.

“All nine districts will participate, featuring their best athletes. This allows more potential athletes to be highlighted at the state, national and international levels.

“This edition will employ the competition format of next year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma) so our athletes can better prepare and get early exposure (to how things are run),” he said at the announcement of Sukses here today.

Najwan said 11 sports will be contested at Sukses — lawn bowls, taekwondo, sepak takraw, netball, rugby, silat, athletics, basketball, volleyball, archery, and table tennis.

“All events will be held in Klang, other than rugby, volleyball, sepak takraw, lawn bowls and netball, which will be held in Shah Alam.”

Sukses 2023, held in Hulu Langat, saw 1,187 athletes competing in 109 events, with Petaling crowned overall champion after earning 76 medals (33 gold). Sepang finished second while host Hulu Langat rounded out the top three.

Cyclists Khow Yong Peat and Yong Ann Yi, both from Petaling, were crowned sportsman and sportswoman of Sukses 2023.
