KAJANG, Sept 11 — A 14-year-old male student, who was charged with assaulting his teacher two months ago, changed his plea to not guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here today.
Approached by the media outside the court, his counsel, S. Priyalatha, said the Form 1 transition class student entered his plea after the charge was read to him in Tamil during a mention proceedings on camera before magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Alia Safri appeared for the prosecution.
The youth is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to a 29-year-old male teacher at a secondary school here at 4.48pm on July 28.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Priyalatha added that she will review case documents, which are to be disclosed by the prosecution, before determining whether to make representations on the matter.
“We applied for the court to allow more time for the next proceedings. The next mention has been fixed for October 9 to allow for the prosecution to provide the relevant documents to the court and the defence,” she said.
The incident was widely circulated on social media, depicting a male student allegedly assaulting and threatening his teacher at a secondary school here on July 28.
