SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 — Media Selangor will play a main role as the official digital platform to ensure the comprehensive coverage of Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 can be enjoyed by people across the country.
Media Selangor senior editor Khairulnizam Bakeri said his working visit to the SEA Games 2025 Broadcasters’ Meeting and Media Briefing in Bangkok, Thailand, recently provided him with an understanding of regional broadcasting standards that would be applied to the prestigious event.
“Media Selangor will focus on digital content production, including livestreams, event highlights, news coverage, and interactive materials on all official channels.
“This role is in line with efforts to strengthen Selangor Sukma broadcasts so they are easily accessible by the people,” he said.
He added that the digital approach not only caters to local viewers, but could widen the platform’s reach to the regional level, in line with the international broadcasting standards on which its coverage is based.
“SEA Games 2025 organises also shared their expertise in digital broadcasting with Thailand’s main telecommunications firm,” Khairulnizam said.
Meanwhile, TV Sarawak (TVS) chief executive officer Kushairi Abang said TVS’ involvement in the broadcasting consortium isn’t just for the Sukma, but in preparation for the SEA Games 2027 in Sarawak.
“TVS is expanding its role as an official Sukma broadcast partner. This trip is also strategic as the experience will be beneficial when Sarawak hosts the SEA Games 2027,” he said.
Recently, a Selangor Sukma delegation and a consortium of its official broadcasters — Media Selangor, Astro, TVS, SGTV, and Arqiva UK — attended the SEA Games 2025 Broadcasters’ Meeting and Media Briefing in Thailand.
Selangor Sukma 2026 Secretariat chief operations officer Venu Ramadass said that for this edition, a National Broadcasting Centre (NBC) will be set up in Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Shah Alam as the hub for official coverage, while additional media centres will be provided in Universiti Putra Malaysia and Klang to ensure smooth coverage.
“The meeting was held from September 7 to 10 in Bangkok, and a similar meeting is set to be held early next year in Selangor in preparation for Sukma.
“The joint delegation of the consortium of official broadcasters were taken on a visit to see broadcasting operations at the Rajamangala National Stadium and National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT),” he said.
Venu added that the NBC in Shah Alam will provide more professional coverage of the Selangor Sukma, with all events broadcast live or via highlights and news.
“Similar to how the Bangkok SEA Games involves four main cities, Selangor Sukma will be held across nine districts,” he said.
Selangor Sukma 2026 will be held from August 15 to 24 next year, while the Para Sukma will be held September 5 to 14.
The white eagle has been named official mascot, while the logo is a torch with the Roman numerals XXII to mark the 22nd edition of the event.
The event will be held across Selangor’s nine districts and involve its 12 local authorities, except for track cycling, which will be held at the National Velodrome in Negeri Sembilan.
Thirty-seven compulsory and seven additional sports will be contested.
