SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — The state government has declared Tuesday (September 1) a special occasional public holiday after the Selangor contingent's outstanding performance at the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said this aligns with Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari's announcement during the Games' closing ceremony on Monday (August 24).
"The state government extends its highest congratulations and appreciation to the entire Selangor contingent, comprising athletes, coaches, officials, and all parties who demonstrated the fighting spirit, discipline, dedication and the distinctive spirit of the people of Selangor in bringing glory to the state throughout the 22nd SUKMA.
"This success deserves to be celebrated together by all the people of the state," he said in a statement today.
Fadzli added that the holiday applies to all federal and state public servants serving in Selangor, as a demonstration of solidarity among the entire public service machinery in contributing to the success of SUKMA 2026.
"At the same time, the state government encourages private-sector employers in Selangor to also grant leave to their respective employees, subject to the employers’ consideration and taking into account operational requirements as well as the continuity of services and business operations.
"The implementation of the Special Occasional Public Holiday is subject to subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951, which empowers the state authority to declare any day as a public holiday (occasional/additional holiday) for the state," he said.
Fadzli noted that this victory is also expected to further inspire a sporting culture and motivate Selangor residents to participate actively in sports and pursue excellence at the highest levels.
"One victory, one source of pride, one spirit," he concluded.
By the end of SUKMA 2026 on Monday, the Selangor contingent surpassed its 80-gold medal target, garnering 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze, marking its best performance in the history of its participation in the Games.
