AMPANG JAYA, Aug 27 — There are no infectious cases of measles-rubella in Selangor so far, said state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

She said the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) hasn’t issued any significant reports or warnings about the diseases.

“There isn’t data showing that Selangor has measles-rubella cases. Usually, the JKNS will inform us through a report about certain issues (cases) that need cooperation from the state government.

“For the time being, there have been no warnings or significant case reports from the JKNS about these diseases,” she told reporters after officiating the Ampang Jaya Smart City Synergy Convention at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) today.

Jamaliah added that the Selangor government is ready to work with the Health Ministry (MOH) to distribute additional measles-rubella vaccines to children under the state health programme, if need be.

“We will look at the disease situation. If suitable, we will work with the JKNS and District Health Office to allow vaccinations during Selangor Saring events.

“For now, the state government is continuing its free vaccines initiative for senior citizens, subject to certain terms, during Selangor Saring,” Jamaliah said.

Previously, the MOH said it would launch a measles-rubella immunisation programme for children aged 59 months to six years nationwide, from August 4 to October 12.

The MOH Disease Control Division said the initiative will target children born between August 1, 2020, to January 31, 2025, to increase immunisation coverage and provide early protection to avoid the wider spread of measles or rubella.
