KLANG, Aug 21 — Three premises handled by foreigners around Klang were raided by the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) while two others were issued with licence cancellation notices in an enforcement operation this evening.

MBDK Licensing Department acting director Mohd Izzat Mokhtar said the premises raided were operated by foreigners without licences, with an estimated confiscation value of over RM10,000.

Two licensed premises were given licence cancellation notices under the Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing Bylaws (Klang Municipal Council) 2007 for hiring foreigners without proper permits.

“Owners are allowed to submit appeals or show cause, failing which their licences would be cancelled,” he said.

Izzat added that the integrated operation was focused on Jalan Teruntum 13 and Jalan Seri Kenangan 8 in Meru here, thanks to public complaints.

The premises checked were a restaurant, a mini mart, a telecommunications store, and two catering fronts.

He emphasised that it is not permitted to run businesses out of residential premises, and owners who rent out their property to foreigners will be referred to the Registration Department and Planning Department for further action.

Izzat urged people to continue giving information to authorities if they see premises fully run by foreigners.

Meanwhile, resident Kandasamy, 58, who has lived in the area for 30 years, said the operation was a long awaited one as the premises raided have caused discontent in the neighbourhood.

“Their stores are open from early morning to late night, the noise was a nuisance. I was also worried about safety. It’s better for them to do business in town, not in residential areas,” he said.
