SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — The Selangor Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 will centre various changes in sporting events from previous editions, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said one of the main differences is how the opening ceremony for the 22nd Sukma will be held outside a stadium.
“In a year, we will meet in the Selangor Sukma with its new approaches … not a norm in sporting events.
“For instance, the opening ceremony will be outside a stadium, at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit, as we want to show that sports encompasses all matters, there is no exclusivity, instead it has its own characteristics and values that can be presented with renewed value creation,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking at the Selangor Sukma launch ceremony, held at Dewan Raja Muda Musa here last night. Also present was state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
During the ceremony, the white eagle was unveiled as the mascot for the Selangor Sukma, which will be held from August 15 to 24 next year.
Also launched were the Selangor Sukma 2026 logo, which is a torch with the Roman numerals XXII to celebrate Selangor becoming host of the games again, and the theme song “Rentak Kita, Aksi Kita (Our Beat, Our Move)”.
Amirudin urged all parties involved in the Selangor Sukma to cooperate and focus on the event.
“This isn’t just a personal or state achievement, but (will affect) the country’s image as Sukma is among the largest sporting events held nationally.
“Sukma’s success presents a positive impact and effect to the development of the sports industry, especially Malaysia’s,” he said.
On July 22, Amirudin announced that next year, the Selangor Sukma 2026 would be held from August 15 to 25, while the Selangor Para Sukma 2026 would take place from September 5 to 14.
The event will be held across all nine districts and involve the state’s 12 local councils, except for track cycling, which will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
In the Selangor Sukma 2026, 37 compulsory and seven additional events will be contested.
