Bandar Kajang incident: Foreign student allegedly drove recklessly due to potential stress

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — A foreign student at a public university is believed to have been driving recklessly in an incident at Bandar Kajang yesterday, which resulted in minor injuries to several individuals and damage to several motorcycles.

Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said that preliminary investigations revealed the 24-year-old woman may have been under emotional stress at the time of the incident. However, she has no known history of mental health issues or related medication use.

“She appeared to be under stress related to her issues while studying here in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today, adding that the woman has been remanded for seven days until Wednesday (August 20) to assist the police in further investigations.

So far, 11 statements have been recorded, including those from the victims. Two individuals remain hospitalised and are reported to be in stable condition.

The incident reportedly occurred at 11.58am near a traffic junction close to a shopping centre in Bandar Kajang. The suspect’s vehicle allegedly struck three motorcycles before she exited the car and was restrained by members of the public. Two knives were recovered at the scene.

Six individuals aged between 21 and 60 sustained injuries, while three motorcycles were damaged.

Naazron added that the case is being investigated under Sections 307 and 279 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Videos of the incident have circulated on social media, showing bystanders assisting in detaining the woman and attending to the injured.
