SEREMBAN, July 24 — Three people were killed and 12 injured in an accident involving 15 motorcycles, a car and a lorry at KM262.5 northbound of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) early this morning.
The accident occurred at around 2.30am when the motorcyclists were travelling in a convoy from Senawang towards Kuala Lumpur on the middle and right lanes of the PLUS highway.
Seremban district police chief ACP Mohamad Hatta Che Din said initial investigations showed that upon reaching the scene, three of the motorcycles at the front of the group collided with each other and crashed onto the road.
“This led to 12 motorcycles coming from behind being unable to avoid them and crashing into the three fallen motorcycles. As a result of the collision, all the motorcycles involved also fell onto the road.
“At the same time, a car and a lorry were also hit at the rear and right side by some of the 12 motorcycles,” he said in a statement.
Hatta added that three victims, aged between 18 and 20, were confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries, while 12 other riders were taken to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for further treatment. Two of them suffered serious injuries and are being treated in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
The bodies were later taken to the Forensic Department at the Rembau Hospital for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He also advised motorcyclists to ride carefully and avoid speeding or weaving in and out of traffic.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact investigating officer Insp Tiew Chuan Jie at 014-9668399 or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
