SHAH ALAM, July 20 — The authorities are searching for the developer and company director believed to have sold Bumiputera-designated units at Pangsapuri Amansiara in Selayang to non-Bumiputera buyers without disclosing their actual status.
Taman Templer assemblywoman Anfaal Saari said 564 non-Bumiputera homeowners only discovered their units were Bumiputera lots when applying for strata titles at the land office.
“As a result, they now have to pay the seven per cent Bumiputera discount to the land office, even though they were never informed of the unit status from the start.
“They are victims in this situation. But from a policy standpoint, the state must maintain the Bumiputera housing quota. We cannot simply reduce the quota, as that would undermine Bumiputera equity in home ownership,” she said.
Anfaal stressed the need for a fair resolution that protects affected buyers while upholding existing housing policies.
“We need to identify the irresponsible developer. The company has likely been liquidated or gone bankrupt, but the directors who may have walked away and repeated the same modus operandi elsewhere must be held accountable.
“The liquidator has been working with us over the past three months to trace the individuals involved. If necessary and appropriate, legal action will be taken, including prosecution in court.
“Legal matters are currently being handled by the state government through the housing secretariat under the state executive councillor for housing Datuk Borhan Aman Shah,” she said.
Anfaal, who is also the state executive councillor for women’s development and welfare, proposed that the verification process for unit status be tightened to prevent future cases of misrepresentation.
“To ensure transparency, perhaps every unit should be clearly endorsed from the outset, stating whether it is a Bumiputera lot or not, so buyers know exactly what they’re purchasing and are not misled by the developer,” she said.
Last Thursday, a coordination meeting was held with Borhan to find the best resolution for the 564 affected residents of Pangsapuri Amansiara who were unknowingly sold Bumiputera lots by an irresponsible developer.
