SEPANG, July 3 — Selangor’s economic growth, reaching RM432.1 billion last year, proves that economic activity within the state continues to flourish.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the increase from RM406.6 billion recorded the previous year was supported by the services and manufacturing sectors, along with a significant rise in the construction industry.
“Selangor continues to expand its contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP), rising to 26.2 per cent — an increase of 0.3 per cent from 25.9 per cent in 2023.
“The government is striving to strike a balance between the needs of the people and economic development. Therefore, new guidelines and formulas are needed to succeed,” he said.
Amirudin was delivering his speech at the key handover ceremony of Rumah Idaman Melur units to their owners in Cybersouth 10 today.
He added that teamwork, along with creative efforts and innovation, is the key to strengthening the state’s position.
The Menteri Besar said the development framework under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) has begun to yield results, with even greater achievements anticipated through the implementation of RS-2 next year.
“This is the recipe for success that we will continue with RS-1, of which 90 per cent is already underway. It will be further complemented by RS-2, which will be tabled next year.
“RS-2 will focus on new developments, emerging sub-sectors, and ensuring the people’s well-being remains a priority,” he said.
On Tuesday (July 1), a report released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) indicated that Selangor continues to solidify its position as the nation’s key industrial and services hub, recording GDP growth of 6.3 per cent last year.
It revealed that Selangor recorded a GDP of RM432.1 billion last year and contributed 26.2 per cent to the national GDP.
The DOSM also reported that the national economy grew by 5.1 per cent last year, up from 3.5 per cent the previous year, with a value-added total of RM1.65 trillion.
