SHAH ALAM, July 2 — Tourism Selangor has launched a RM300,000 grant to support programmes held in line with the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign.

Tourism Selangor CEO Chua Yee Ling said grant applications are open until October 31 and are available to private firms, government-linked companies that do not receive government promotional funding, state government-affiliated organisations, and non-governmental organisations.

“The grant is divided into three categories — the Surprising Selangor Grant valued at RM30,000, the Splendid Selangor Grant at RM20,000, and the Discover Selangor Grant at RM10,000.

“The initiative aims to increase domestic and international tourist arrivals, promote local tourism products and destinations, and support the overall objectives of Visit Selangor Year,” she told Media Selangor.

Chua added that the grant aligns with the overall goals of Visit Selangor Year 2025, which include promoting and stimulating the local economy by encouraging community-based participation in tourism.

She said the state tourism promotion agency is also evaluating proposals from industry players, as part of their grant applications, to organise tourism programmes across various sectors.

“The most common suggestions we received were for the organisation of sports tourism, including the increasingly popular pickleball, as well as marathons, cycling, and hiking.

“Through this grant, we aim to encourage more stakeholders to support the state’s tourism agenda and make Selangor tourists’ destination of choice.”

The state government is looking to draw eight million visitors to Selangor this year, with transactions expected to reach RM11.7 billion, in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2025.

The campaign will feature over 60 programmes with promotions focused on several key segments, including ecotourism, agrotourism, and arts and culture.

Tapping foreign, domestic markets

Meanwhile, Chua said Tourism Selangor is promoting the Visit Selangor Year 2025 through expos both international and domestic.

“In the first half of the year, we participated in international tourism expos in Indonesia, specifically in the two major cities of Makassar and Yogyakarta. Promotional efforts are also focused on World Expo 2025 Osaka and China.

“From this month, we will place greater emphasis on the domestic market. Tourism Selangor will organise the Selangor Travel Fair in Pasar Seni, Kuala Lumpur, apart from joining the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents Fair in Johor next month.”

She added that Tourism Selangor is partnering with private firms to promote the state’s healthcare services in a bid to draw foreign tourists, especially Indonesians.

“Tourism Selangor participated in networking sessions and business-to-business discussion slots at the Malaysia Healthcare Expo in Makassar last month alongside industry players.

“We shared our expertise to explore potential opportunities and further expand the health tourism market in Selangor from Indonesia,” Chua said.
