SHAH ALAM, July 25 — The Selangor Travel Fair 2025 takes place this weekend with steep discounts and timely promotions as Tourism Selangor looks to tap into the upcoming Malaysia Day long weekend to spur domestic travel.
Taking place at Central Market in Kuala Lumpur this Saturday and Sunday, the fair will offer discounts of up to 50 per cent and exclusive buy one, get one free tour packages, with thousands of visitors expected to turn up.
Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said the fair, now in its second year, features 30 exhibitors and forms part of the “Selangor Kan Ada” campaign under the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) initiative.
“This year’s Selangor Travel Fair is themed for the community, and we’ve lined up an exciting programme with videography workshops by cinematographers, traditional performances by the Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat), and live shows by Lah Ahmad and Aizat Amdan.”
Speaking at the Tourism Industry Awards 2025 press conference at Sunway Resort Hotel yesterday, Chua said the two-day fair aims to attract at least 30,000 visitors and generate RM500,000 in travel sales.
“We started the Selangor Travel Fair last year at Sunway Pyramid, and for its second year, we’re taking it to Kuala Lumpur,” she said, noting that Central Market was chosen for its high foot traffic and proximity to Selangor.
Tourism Selangor will also ramp up promotions for VSY2025 ahead of the newly declared public holiday on September 15 (Monday), which falls a day before Malaysia Day, creating a long four-day weekend.
“Tourism Selangor welcomes this announcement (by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim). Long weekends are good for domestic travel, and we plan to maximise this opportunity with special packages during the National Month.
“There will be attractive deals for families, friends, and even corporate groups looking to organise team-building retreats in Selangor.”
In a televised broadcast on Wednesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the additional holiday was intended to promote national unity and encourage Malaysians to reconnect with loved ones or travel within the country.
As part of its tourism push, Selangor is targeting eight million tourist arrivals and RM11.7 billion in tourism receipts throughout 2025, supported by more than 60 events focused on eco-tourism, agro-tourism, arts and culture.
