SABAK BERNAM, June 25 — The state government is set to implement a new short-term approach to address flood issues involving three local authorities.
State executive councillor for infrastructure Dato' Izham Hashim said the "quick-win" initiative aims to reduce the risk of major floods, pending the completion of longer-term solutions involving large-scale mega projects.
"We expect more questions pertaining to infrastructure, particularly related to floods, to be raised in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly sitting next month.
"We will announce a new approach to flood mitigation, whereby we will introduce quick-win measures involving three local councils, namely Subang Jaya, Klang and Shah Alam."
Izham said this to reporters after officiating the Agro Madani Sales Programme and Agricultural Equipment Aid Handover Ceremony at the Bernam Jaya Area Farmers’ Organisation (PPK) here yesterday.
He added that the quick win initiative is a result of thorough discussions between the state's Infrastructure Committee and the three local councils involved, and is expected to cost millions of ringgit to implement.
According to Izham, details of the new initiative will be presented in the upcoming state assembly sitting, with the project tipped for completion by October, in preparation for the northeast monsoon.
"We have identified many locations for the project implementation. We expect it to be completed by October, that is before the monsoon season."
