SHAH ALAM, June 20 — Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) remains committed to supporting domestic violence victims by offering effective rehabilitation programmes and empowerment support through its six shelters.
WBS' women’s strategy and policy department executive Tengku Muhammad Afif Tengku Azmi said the initiative not only alleviates the burden on victims but also strengthens the role of shelters as a crucial component in the social protection ecosystem.
"These shelters provide a vital space in our efforts to empower women. "The assistance given has had a positive impact through training and rehabilitation programmes that have enabled them to become more self-reliant," he told Media Selangor.
To ensure the initiative's success, RM85,000 has been spent on upgrading the shelters located in Rawang, Klang, Ampang, Petaling Jaya, and Kuala Langat to help victims rebuild their lives.
"We hope this step will raise public awareness about domestic violence and support the well-being of women and children in Selangor.
"We believe that with sustained support, WBS can drive positive change and help those in need to recover and achieve a better life," Tengku Muhammad said.
The Shelter Assistance Initiative, introduced by the state government via WBS, aims to provide improved protection and support for women and children affected by domestic and gender-based violence.
Its shelters include:
- Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Perlindungan Sementara Baituzzahrah (Kuala Langat).
- Pertubuhan Muslimah Malaysia (Klang).
- Pertubuhan Kebajikan Bonda Juwanda (Rawang).
- Pertubuhan Pertolongan Wanita (WAO) (Petaling Jaya).
- Pusat Jagaan Bayt Al-Rahmah (Ampang).
