SHAH ALAM, June 3 — Mosques and surau hosting sacrificial rites for Aidiladha have been reminded to adhere to the Selangor Water Management Authority’s (Luas) guidelines to prevent river pollution.
The agency said sacrificial waste such as animal blood, innards and bones must be systematically disposed of so they don’t enter water sources and pollute them.
“Liquid waste like blood must be suitably managed, while solid waste such as stomach contents and bones cannot be thrown into rivers.
“Containing solid waste is highly encouraged so more systematic disposal can be carried out by authorities,” Luas said in a statement on Facebook today.
Luas urged the public to report any suspicious activity that could pollute rivers, by calling 03-5511 1800 or sending a WhatsApp message to 019-264 7905.
Previously, the agency said it had carried out daily water sampling upstream and downstream the state’s main rivers to ensure water quality.
Patrols and surveys are also underway at three river basins — Sungai Selangor, Sungai Langat, and Sungai Klang — as a control and pollution prevention measure.
