JOHOR BAHRU, May 24 — The timeline and direction for Malaysia as it approaches its centennial in 2057 must begin to be charted now with a strong sense of idealism, said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice president said this long-term vision needs to be clearly defined over the next 32 years to ensure national unity and continued progress.

Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, added that such a strategic framework is crucial to ensuring that Keadilan remains relevant and firmly positioned within the national political landscape.

“We must be bold in imagining what the Malaysian identity will look like at 100 years old. What will the Malays, Chinese, and Indians look like? We must envision what our nation will become.

“This calls for courage and should be championed by Angkatan Muda and Keadilan. We are not just a party for today, but pioneers of the future, celebrating Malaysia’s centenary with an imagined and purposeful framework.

“This is Keadilan's struggle: to uplift Malay and Islamic identity through knowledge, exposure, and intelligence, not fear. We want all communities to coexist, not compete,” he said.

Amirudin was delivering his closing speech during the 2024/2025 Keadilan National Congress at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre today.

In yesterday’s party election, he retained his vice presidency from the previous term after receiving the highest number of votes at 7,955, followed by Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Deputy Minister cum Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, who garnered 5,895 votes, winning the position from Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad

The two other vice presidents are also incumbents: Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun with 5,881 votes; and Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang with 5,757 votes.

12 Keadilan members contested for the four vice president positions in the party’s top leadership lineup for the 2025–2028 term.
