SHAH ALAM, May 24 — Residents in low-lying areas around Klang are reminded to remain vigilant and prepare for the high tide phenomenon, which is expected to occur starting today until Thursday (May 29).

The Klang District Disaster Management Committee said the sea levels are forecast to reach a high of 5.2m on Monday (May 26) and Tuesday (May 27), based on readings from the Port Klang Station.

This phenomenon carries the risk of seawater overflow and flooding, especially in exposed areas and those with inadequate drainage systems.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also forecasted thunderstorms in several locations in the morning throughout this period, while the weather in the afternoon and evening is expected to be fair.

The estimated times and sea levels of high tide are as follows:

  • May 25 (Sunday): 5.1m at 4.35pm.
  • May 26 (Monday): 5.2m at 5.24pm.
  • May 27 (Tuesday): 5.2m at 6.09pm.
  • May 28 (Wednesday): 5.1m at 6.53pm.

Residents have also been advised to stay alert to current weather developments, ensure important documents and valuables are stored safely, and follow the authorities' instructions should evacuation be necessary.

Further information or emergency assistance can be obtained via the National Emergency Line at 999 or by contacting the Klang District Disaster Operations Centre (DDOC) at 03-3382 9292.
