SHAH ALAM, May 23 — The state government is taking a serious view of the recent incident involving a loud explosion-like sound heard in several areas of the district, and will initiate a thorough investigation, as the disturbance can potentially disrupt daily life and alarm residents.

State executive councillor for tourism and local government Dato' Ng Suee Lim said identifying the source of the sound is crucial to prevent ongoing concern and speculation among the local community.

“There have been complaints on social media, with reports of a loud noise that could be heard from a considerable distance. An immediate investigation will be conducted to determine the source of the sound and address public concerns.

“We (the state government) view this matter seriously and will cooperate with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and the police to uncover the cause, which remains a mystery,” he said during a press conference today.

Ng added that similar incidents have occurred before, including one reported in Ipoh, Perak, in October last year, the cause of which remains unknown to this day.

He said MBSA will be tasked with conducting a thorough investigation, while the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) would also be mobilised to coordinate actions with enforcement teams and rapid response patrols to help identify the location and source of the sound.

Earlier, reports of the explosion-like sound went viral on social media, with residents in the city centre, Denai Alam, and Setia Alam claiming to have heard it.

Previously, Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the police had taken note of the matter and urged anyone with information to contact the nearest police station for further action.
