SHAH ALAM, May 12 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj today urged people of all races to foster closer relationships with each other and contribute to the well-being and development of the nation.
In a Facebook post, the Ruler also called on the people to unite and love the country.
“I hope that as with other festivals, Wesak can be celebrated with joy not only by Buddhists, but also other Malaysians who love peace, harmony, and interracial unity,” His Royal Highness said in a statement.
Sultan Sharafuddin, along with Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, wish Buddhists a Happy Wesak.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari also expressed hope that Wesak can be celebrated in harmony.
“May this year’s Wesak be celebrated in a lively and harmonious manner, and may all festivities and rituals go smoothly,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Wesak celebrates the life, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. Devotees offer prayers and release doves to commemorate the festival, and donate meals to the needy.
