PETALING JAYA, April 25 — Selangor aims to position itself as a key driver of national growth by cultivating a future-ready economy anchored in digitalisation and high-value industries, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Delivering his keynote speech at the Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant (Top ECM) Awards 2025 at One World Hotel today, he said the state government is implementing a long-term strategy that includes flagship initiatives like the Top ECM, Selangor 1000 Digital, and the Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP).

It is also ramping up efforts in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence fields.

“Our goal is clear: to ensure that every business, no matter its size, has access to the tools, support and opportunities needed to thrive in today’s dynamic digital world,” Amirudin said.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Top ECM Awards, which received 1,060 applications.

From this pool, 511 merchants were shortlisted to undergo the state’s training and mentorship programme. Today, 10 outstanding participants were honoured as award recipients.

He stressed that the Top ECM Awards are more than just a ceremony to celebrate e-commerce success stories. It also represents a platform to elevate national business standards through innovation and collaboration.

“This programme has never been just about awards. It is about recognition, impact, and community.

“A community of dreamers, doers, and digital pioneers, bound by a shared goal to build something greater than themselves, fuelled by technology, collaboration, and shared purpose,” Amirudin said.

The Menteri Besar added that Selangor’s smart state aspirations are driven by strong policy direction, coupled with real-world implementation across industries.

“That is why we began our journey into semiconductors just last year. And today, we are already seeing significant progress from our agencies.

“It has been a very, very good year for that initiative. Again, we are not just training one company or building up one industry; we are building an entire ecosystem. That is the role and responsibility of the government,” he said.

Selangor is determined not to fall behind in the fast-moving tech landscape and is working closely with industry players to stay competitive.

“We do not want to be left behind by the market. We have to work together with the market. We are not merely creating government projects or setting up agencies per se, but what we are building is a community and an industry,” Amirudin said.
