SHAH ALAM, April 22 — The Selangor government is looking into Rainbow Home Care Centre in Cheras, which has made headlines for alleged child abuse.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the shelter could be closed if it doesn’t follow regulations.
She said the state has received complaints about the privately run home, and that investigations are ongoing.
“We received several complaints and have requested the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) investigate.
“The Social Welfare Department (JKM) has instructed guardians to retrieve their children, while those with complications will be temporarily placed at JKM facilities,” she told reporters at Wanita Berdaya Selangor’s Aidilfitri event and World Autism Awareness Day celebration.
Anfaal added that the state is identifying and locating the next-of-kin of the 18 children residing at Rainbow Home.
Previously, the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry announced that the Hulu Langat District Social Welfare Office had issued Rainbow Home Care Centre with a closure order after alleged child abuse cases.
The media reported that an elderly couple, both owners and caretakers of the private children’s shelter in Batu 9, Cheras, had been detained.
