SHAH ALAM, April 21 — The wearing of the Jalur Gemilang badge on school uniforms will instil among students a sense of patriotism and love for the country, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin said even though the act of wearing a badge may seem insignificant, it is actually an important patriotic gesture and one that would encourage students from a young age to have a sense of love for the motherland.
“Maybe to some people, having to wear another badge seems trivial or petty but I feel that this move will indirectly instil in the students a sense of love and pride for our national flag,” he said.

“Moreover, we often see the Jalur Gemilang being flown on flag poles, but having it pinned to our attires means it is closer to our being.
“I believe this will help to bring people together and to create more harmony, especially at a time where racial discord is rife around the world.
“We need this, now,” he added.
Amirudin was speaking after an official ceremony to mark the first day of the badge wearing initiative at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 9, here, today.
The Ministry of Education has from today provided every national school student with two Jalur Gemilang badges each to wear for the 2025/2026 academic year.
