SUBANG JAYA, April 8 — Six disabled children under 18 at the temporary relief centre (PPS) in Masjid Putra Heights have been identified as eligible to receive assistance under the Anak Istimewa Selangor (AnIS) scheme.
State executive councillor for women's empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the aid will be coordinated through the Selangor Children's Heritage Foundation (Yawas) to ensure the wellbeing of the disabled children continues to be prioritised even in times of disaster.
The initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to ensure that no vulnerable groups are left behind, especially children with special needs.
“Yawas has gone on-site to assess their needs at the PPS. We met one child earlier who has a cleft lip.
“We want to identify what they require, possibly related equipment. So far, six individuals have applied, and I have asked the AnIS team to expedite the process,” she said at the PPS today.
In the incident on April 1, a Petronas gas pipeline along Jalan Putra Harmoni in Putra Heights, caught fire, with flames soaring over 30 metres high. It took nearly eight hours to fully extinguish the blaze.
The fire also caused a crater measuring 9.8 metres deep and approximately 21 by 24 metres wide at the site of the incident. As of now, 353 residents from 91 families remain at the Masjid Putra Heights PPS.
