SHAH ALAM, April 1 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari today visited a temporary control centre set up in response to a massive blaze along the Petronas gas pipeline on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, which broke out this morning.
He arrived at the centre at 4.20pm, and was greeted by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan and Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad.
“The 8.10am fire was successfully extinguished at 3.45pm,” he said in a Facebook post.
“So far, 305 victims have been rescued, and all are sheltered at the temporary relief centre (at the Putra Heights Mosque), Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Serdang Hospital, and Putrajaya Hospital.
“Praise be to God, as at 5pm, no deaths from the incident have been reported,” he added.
Amirudin said the current priority is to ensure residents’ safety.
Two neighbourhoods within a 290m radius of the fire will be categorised as a restricted area until conditions are safe enough for residents to return to their homes.
The Menteri Besar said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will visit the site in the evening for a briefing on the incident.
“The Selangor government will work closely with the federal government to ensure the residents’ well-being,” Amirudin said.
Media Selangor personnel on scene said Amirudin and Anwar will pay a visit to the temporary relief centre at the Putra Heights Mosque later today.
The Prime Minister will hold a press conference after the visit.
This morning, a leak along the Petronas gas pipeline near Taman Puchong Perdana caused a massive fire, which damaged houses and forced people from their homes.
