SHAH ALAM, March 30 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has extended Aidilfitri wishes to all, highlighting how meaningful the festivities are after a month of fasting in observance of Ramadan.
“If we look at the Fussilat surah, line 53 in the Quran, Muslims are constantly reminded of the signs of God’s power, and we are urged to hold fast to the values of honesty, knowledge, and moderation in the face of various challenges that may lead us astray from the true path to be a noble person.
“Praise be to God, I have seen the dedication of many Muslims to uplift mosques in the last nights of Ramadan with their unity and moderation,” he said in a statement today.
Amirudin added that the meaning of Aidilfitri is oneself’s return to the true path, and urged all Muslims to practise charity such as being kind to the poor and orphaned as well as the underprivileged.
“Moderation must be centred not only through our actions but through our values so our children inherit these traits and become a civilised, noble generation.
“Though sometimes there arise incidents that could be exploited by certain parties to divide us, don’t ever forget that our strength as Malaysians is the unity formed through the (Islamic) brotherhood that has been built over such a long time.
“We must look to the experiences of other countries and communities that have let division negatively affect their economies,” he said.
The Menteri Besar mentioned that due to the state government’s success in collecting a record RM2.867 billion in revenue last year, he had announced the Kita Selangor Aidilfitri Special Incentive, under which an extra month’s salary was granted to the state’s 21,736 civil servants in two sums, one having been channelled on March 25 and another to follow on April 15.
“I believe many of you have made the trip home and arrived at your hometowns. Enjoy those precious moments with your loved ones.
“To those who will depart for home in the next few hours, I pray for your safe journeys, and that you are protected by God. Better to be late, as long as you reach your destinations safely.”
On the state government’s behalf, Amirudin wished everyone “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri”.
“I seek your forgiveness for all that I lack, and will strive to put forth my best for all in our state.”
