SHAH ALAM, March 24 — All permits for recreational and hiking activities in Selangor’s permanent forest reserves must be applied on the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System, or SeForest, from April 1.
According to a notice by the Selangor State Forestry Department, valid permits for such activities must be obtained in advance.
“Failure to comply with the new regulations will result in severe penalties, including a fine of up to RM30,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both, under Section 47(1) National Forestry Act 1984,” it said on its Facebook page.
Visitors must apply for a permit at least 48 hours before their intended visit, and payments must be made within 24 hours of receiving approval.
Previously, visitors were required to visit the Forestry Department’s district branch offices to obtain approval.
The department also said the application link will be available from April 1, with usage instructions already shared on its social media page.
In a separate announcement, the department also said all ecoparks under its management will be closed on March 31 and April 1 for Aidilfitri.
From September 1 last year, the number of visitors permitted daily at 43 recreational and hiking sites in Selangor’s permanent forest reserves was capped to minimise environmental impact.
According to the department, the daily limit of between 150 and 300 visitors varies depending on each forest reserve’s capacity.
Certain locations require visitors to hire certified mountain guides for climbing activities.
