KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 — The Selangor government is set to digitise the State Legislative Assembly’s official records to make them more accessible as part of its broader artificial intelligence (AI) transformation plan.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the move is part of the state’s goal to leverage AI for government efficiency while fostering a more tech-savvy civil service.

He said the digitisation of state records is expected to improve accessibility, reduce reliance on physical archives, and streamline legislative processes.

“The Selangor Speaker has committed to converting physical copies of the Hansard into digital versions that will be available for research and reference,” he said at the launch of the Teraju AI initiative at Google’s office, here today.

The initiative is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the state government and Google Cloud Malaysia, with Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) leading efforts to implement AI-driven solutions, starting with 11 agencies.

The first phase of the three-year initiative to develop AI-driven solutions for state administration, known as Teraju AI, will cost RM5 million.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state is determined to shift from merely consuming technology to actively creating and innovating AI applications.

“We must equip our civil servants and citizens with the knowledge and skills to harness AI effectively.

“I also do not want Selangorians to solely be consumers of technology. Instead of being perennial scrollers and swipers, I would like to see efforts like today spark interest among the Selangor civil service so that we can transition from being mere consumers to creators and innovators of technology in the AI space,” he said.

Amirudind said other areas identified for AI adoption include improving local council response times, enhancing digital land administration systems, and optimising transport services like the Selangor free bus and demand-responsive transport (DRT) programme.

Amirudin stressed that the AI transformation would be undertaken with a strong emphasis on data privacy, ethical use, and cybersecurity to prevent misuse or breaches.
