SHAH ALAM, March 12 — The state government invites interested and qualified companies to join the request for proposals (RFP) process for the implementation of the demand-responsive transit (DRT) Project, which is open from today until April 7.
Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI said the DRT RFP briefing session will take place on Friday (March 14), and further information can be obtained through its website.
"The deadline for submission of the RFP is before 12pm on April 7, 2025," it said in a statement today.
MBI added that the existing DRT services are also expected to experience some disruption as incentives for existing operators have been stopped until the official appointment of operators is made during the RFP implementation period.
"The full implementation (of the DRT) is expected to commence in May 2025. Therefore, consumers are requested to check for any service changes or disruptions through the existing DRT service application to manage their travel plans to their desired destinations," it said.
The state government previously implemented the DRT pilot project from November 21, 2023, to July 31, last year, in eight zones of several local authorities areas in Selangor.
"During the period, the use of DRT recorded a total of 73,389 ridership, thus achieving the main target in increasing public awareness of the service.
"The project is expected to meet the demand of residents and visitors in Selangor in realising more efficient and flexible travel at an affordable price," MBI said.
DRT refers to a transportation system that adapts routes and schedules based on passengers' specific needs, while also aiming to provide more flexible and efficient transportation options, especially for connecting the first and last miles of a journey.
On October 10, 2023, it was reported that the state government would introduce a DRT system aimed at replacing the Selangor Smart Bus facility in high-density areas and narrow lanes in the future.
According to state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han, the DRT system prioritises passenger transport for the purpose of increasing the use of major public transport like rail and buses.
