SHAH ALAM, March 5 — The Selangor Health Department will conduct random inspections at over 200 bazaar sites to ensure traders comply with food preparation regulations.
Its director Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin said that more than 200 health officers have been deployed across the state to inspect sales premises and prevent cases of food poisoning.
“This year, we have 236 Ramadan bazaar sites involving 15,349 stalls throughout Selangor. The highest number is in Kajang, with 41 sites hosting 2,742 stalls.
“We will carry out comprehensive random inspections at all bazaar sites, involving over 200 health officers,” she said at the Ramadan Bazaar Tour programme in conjunction with Ihya’ Ramadan Selangor at the Section 13 bazaar yesterday.
Earlier, state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi launched the QR code for the 'Food Safety Campaign: Observe and Choose'.
Also present was Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI's chief executive officer Dato' Saipolyazan M Yusop.
Commenting on the campaign, Dr Ummi said that this first-time initiative aims to make it easier for the public to report misconduct in food sales.
“The QR code also provides various information, including tips on selecting dishes, practices to prevent food poisoning, and methods for storing leftover food.
“Bazaar visitors only need to scan the QR code displayed at each Ramadan bazaar to access the information,” she said.
